Do you always groan in class when your teacher says “get out your notes”? Well, with our tips, note taking should be as easy as 123!
Tip #1: Only write down the important words. By now, you should know how to write jot notes because jot notes are crucial when it comes to note taking! In fact, note taking basically is jot notes! But just in case you need a re-cap, a jot note is a sentence with only the important information. For example, instead of “the party was so awesome, especially with the bouncy castle and cool raffle”, you say “the party was fun”!
Tip #2: If your teacher says “this is important information” he/she is giving you a hint that you should probably write it down. If you miss out on the information because you weren’t focusing, you’re going to regret it.
Tip #3: Sometimes, you can feel so overwhelmed with notes. You don’t know when the time is right to be writing something down, or how fast you need to write. One tip for that is whenever you’re unsure about your notes or if you don’t know when to write, it can help if you sometimes look towards your classmate and see if he/she is taking notes, but make sure you don’t copy right off their notes. That way you can have a good idea of what you’re supposed to do!
Tip #4: Make sure you label the page that your notes are on so that if you look for them in the near future they will be easy to find. We also recommend drawing a quick diagram for a better understanding of what you are learning.
Tip #5: You’ve probably heard this many times, but if you write in your own words rather than just copying down exactly what your teacher is saying, you’re going to have a much better understanding of the subject.
You’re all set to be the best note-taker in class!
